From 14th to 16th November 2023, an EPRC delegation attended the 49th meeting of the NATO PR/SAR WG, held in Oslo (NOR) at the historic grounds of the Akershus Fortress. Under the authority of the NATO Standardisation Office (NSO), this forum focusses on the development of PR doctrines and standards.
The EPRC is a permanent non-voting member of the Working Group. It actively contributes to the works of the Group, especially as the NLD Custodian of two major NATO STANAGs and Standards, the one related to SERE Training and the one related to PR TTP, is posted as the Concepts & Documents Area Director at EPRC.
The biannual PR/SAR WG meetings allow all Custodians of PR-related NATO Standards to report and update the member nations on the status and developments of their documents. They also aim to gather other relevant stakeholders, either agencies or organisations, to present and discuss topics of interest.
This meeting gave the occasion to recall the urgency of ratifying the new NATO SERE training Standard and discuss the way ahead for the revision of the PR TTP document. Fruitful exchanges also took place regarding terminology, PR capability development, and the nations’ interest in creating a PR hub, or centre of excellence, in a NATO context.
This forum for NATO PR expertise is playing a positive role in formalising and updating the necessary PR references, and more broadly in building the PR capability among the Alliance, an effort to which the EPRC is keen to remain an active contributor.
